  • We put together this panel discussion at the @culturalconfluencewoodfire conference For those of you interested in expanding your knowledge of woodfiring outside of the institutional setting. Thanks @carterpottery and @teadubpottery Posted @withrepost • @carterpottery Today on the Tales of a Red Clay Rambler Podcast I have a panel on nonacademic paths for learning wood firing featuring Robin Dupont (@robindupontceramics), Jody Johnstone (@johnstonejody), Scott Parady (@cobbartandecology), Martin Tagseth (@mtagseth), and Tara Wilson (@teadubpottery). The panelists discuss a wide range of personal experience from Johnstone’s time in a traditional Japanese apprenticeship to Parady establishing his Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Project to teach wood firing and ecology. The presentation was given at the Cultural Confluence Wood Fire Symposium, held in Helena, MT in October 2018. • When making teapots I often feel unbalanced both mentally and physically. I resolve this by seeking other productive things to do that offer balance. I find moving away from the wheel and constructing forms other ways has been a good way to do this. Holding my body in a totally different way, moving my hands in a different way and engaging my brain with different design concerns.
